Professor Hong-Son Cung MD.PhD.MS (Ophth-UK) is the only doctor in Vietnam who can perform well on both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye. Until now, Professor Cung Hong Son has successfully performed more than 110,000 refractive surgeries, 80,000 Cataract surgeries, 20,000 vitreoretinal surgeries, and thousands of glaucoma, cosmetic and other surgeries. Therefore, Professor Sơn is currently the surgeon with the highest number of refractive surgery in Vietnam.

Vision and Mission:

Professor Cung Hong Son is a highly esteemed and experienced expert in the field of Ophthalmology in Vietnam. With many years of professional experience and profound expertise in treating eye diseases, he has earned the trust of many patients. In 2011, he was awarded the title of Associate Professor of Medicine by The State Council For Professorship at Hanoi Medical University.

Throughout his career as a doctor, Professor Cung Hong Son has performed charitable surgeries, providing hope to numerous impoverished patients and families who are eligible for preferential treatment policies in all provinces across the country such as: Bình Phước, Quảng Ngãi, Đà Nẵng, Huyan, Lý Sơn Insular District, Thanh Hoá, Nam Định, Hà Nội, Ninh Bình, Lào Cai, Thái Nguyên, Hà Giang, Tuyên Quang, Phú Thọ, Điện Biên, Yên Bái, Lai Châu, Bắc Giang, Bắc Ninh, Hưng Yên, Vĩnh Phúc, Hải Dương, Hải Phòng, Quảng Ninh, etc.

Since 2021, at the Hong Son Eye Hospital - 709 Giải Phóng Street, Professor Cung Hong Son has been providing free cataract surgeries at the Hong Son Eye Hospital on 709 Giải Phóng Street. Thanks to his kind efforts, over 1,000 patients who are eligible for preferential treatment policies, such as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, wounded soldiers, and the family members of patriotic martyr across the country, have been able to benefit from this life-changing service. Moreover, other poor and disadvantaged patients in Hanoi and other provinces have also received free surgeries through the Charity Fund of Mrs. Lê Thị Tuệ, who is Professor Cung Hong Son’s mother. This fund, which is a family-based initiative and does not accept donations from any other individuals or organizations,  is truly inspiring as it shows their deep commitment to make such a positive impact on community.

In 2014, Professor Cung Hong Son was nominated for the prestigious "Achievement Award for the Younger Generation" Medal in 2014 by none other than Nguyễn Đắc Vinh, a highly respected member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and The First Secretary of the Youth Union Central Committee.

We are thrilled to share that Professor Cung Hong Son was nominated for the prestigious "Achievement Award for the Younger Generation" Medal in 2014 by none other than Nguyen Dac Vinh, a highly respected member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and The First Secretary of the Youth Union Central Committee. This well-deserved recognition was bestowed upon Professor Son for his exceptional contributions to public health during his tenure as the Vice Director of The Vietnam Young Physicians’ Association..

In January 2023, Professor Cung Hong Son achieved a remarkable milestone by completing an impressive 6,000 CLEAR surgeries. This groundbreaking achievement has made him the world's first surgeon to reach this level of success. For this achievement, he was awarded the esteemed Award of Excellence by the Ziemer company in recognition of his outstanding contributions.

His guidance has been invaluable to a plethora of postgraduate students from esteemed medical universities throughout the country. These include Hanoi Medical University, the Faculty of Medicine at National University, and Thái Bình University of Medicine and Pharmacy, etc. He has also been instrumental in assisting foreign fellowship doctors hailing from Sweden, Finland, and beyond. These students have participated in a range of programs, such as PhD, Master's degrees, First-degree specialist, Second-degree specialist, and Specialized orientation training. They have also received hands-on surgical training in Phacosurgery, Vitreoretinal surgery, Ophthalmic plastic surgery, and other areas. Many of his students have since gone on to hold leadership positions within hospitals and provinces.

Two years in the United States:

- A full scholarship from Oregon Health & Science University.

-Excimer laser surgery training course for refractive surgery, uveitis, anterior segment diseases, corneal transplantation, Phaco cataract surgery,... at Casey Eye Institute – Medical University of Oregon – Portland City – U.S.

Three years in England:

- A full scholarship from the International Organization in Switzerland.

- UK Master of Medicine Degree at Bristol Eye Hospital – University of Bristol, with a graduate thesis: Argon Laser Treatment of Neovascular Chorioretinopathy in Age-Related Macular Degeneration.

- Fellowship at Western Eye Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital – London: Study in the fields of vitreoretinal surgery, Diabetic retinopathy and posterior segment eye diseases, etc.

Two years in Switzerland:

- A full scholarship from the International Organization in Switzerland.

- Fellowship at the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital – Lausanne: With a focus on anterior and posterior segment eye diseases, phaco surgery, and retinal detachment,...
